Welcome:
I am a keen amateur photographer who has gone through the transition of monochrome to colour in the darkroom and in recent times to digital on a computer in the kitchen/diner. It was some forty odd years ago that I became more interested in pursuing photography as a hobby, joined the Warrington Photographic Society and have been a member ever since. I have always enjoyed the competitive side of club photography and believe that it has helped me to produce better technical quality images. The idea of inviting a person to sit in judgment on a set of photos, give each of them a mark and as a result pick a winner is really rather daft and should not be taken too seriously. It is the constructive criticism and seeing how your work compares to that of others that is of real value.
The emergence of digital over the last few years has transformed photography with many darkroom skills being simplified to a swish and click of a mouse and a whole new range of techniques opened up. Despite this and the sophistication of modern cameras the most important piece in the jigsaw of getting an outstanding image lies between the ears of the photographer.
One of the great virtues of the film age is rapidly being lost. Then it was think and shoot or throw money down the drain. I wouldn't like to know the number of "wasted" images the shoot and think approach of today yields.
I have never specialised in any particular aspect of photography and will take anything that presents itself so I hope that there is enough variety in my gallery for every one to appreciate at least one. As I've got older I realise that I should have taken many more photos of the ordinary places as things that I took for granted, neglected, are no longer there and getting forgotten.
